Making a plan for my home office
So, I have my vision, now what? Time to make a plan or a MAP. So, the first step for my office is to measure it and make a blueprint. I get out my tape measure and my graph pencil and I start to measure, draw and measure again! Now I am going to measure my furniture: height, width and length and I even make little puzzle pieces so I can make a 3-D version of my office. Of course, you don’t need to do that, but as a Professional Organizer, I try to do that for my clients so I thought I would do it for myself as well so I can get more practice.
Now I take a piece of paper and I start brainstorming everything that I want for my office. I love levenger paper. It is 11×17 and has a center area for brainstorming and lines on each side to write down tasks. So I start brainstorming.
I decide I want to move my desk to the opposite side of the room, but now I have to also move telephone jacks and add cable outlets for the computer. I need lighting, I don’t have a single light fixture in my office. Also, I want to paint, re-floor, buy filing cabinets and a storage cabinet. I also need to re-design my paper management system. FreedomFiler to the rescue again. I love that paper management system.
Finally, I put dates to each of the tasks and enter them into my time management system.
Hope this helps, next week we will go through the DO IT process!
