THE STATE OF MY HOME OFFICE
My home office is a mess! Being a Professional Organizer puts extra pressure on me, I seem to think that I have to be perfectly organized and never have a problem keeping track of items and have a place for everything. Well, I have to remind myself that I am human and I believe my clients appreciate that I have my own struggles with organizing at times. So I decided to confess to you, my home office is a mess!
As I stated in my E-zine for this month, I don’t feel creative or productive in this room. My office is actually a fourth bedroom and a converted playroom. Now that my children are teenagers and we are soon to be empty nester, it is time to take the plunge and make this room a grown-up office! I thought it would be a geat idea to document my own journey through the Clear & SIMPLE process. As I stated earlier, even Professional Organizers need help! Standing in all the muck and clutter can even make this professional’s head spin! So after I took a couple of aspirins, I started the SEE IT phase of the process. Next week I will share how I went about doing the MAP IT! process and how I am seting up an action system that works for me. So why don’t you pick something in your house that has been causing you anxiety and join me in this journey?
First in the SEE IT! process: what is working?: I do have great furniture and a cozy recliner to do my reading. I also have a tickler system that works.
What is not working?: The chipping paint and crayola wallpaper border, the vinyl floor that is coming up from the sub-floor, the lighting is inadequate and I have no place for storing supplies and inadequate filing cabinets. I also have too many systems going on at once. In other words, I would set up one system realize it didn’t work set up another system and without erasing the original system. As a result, I am confused! Finally, I have no place to store my current projects.
Finally: What is my vision?: I want a home office that is splashed in fresh color, and flooring that feels good on bare feet. I also want a filing system that is maintenance-free and hidden behind closed and neatly-contained doors. When I walk in my office I want my heart to beat with excitement and my brain to focus on making my goals reality!
