WHAT MAKES A GOAL EFFECTIVE?
We all have goals; we may not even know it but we do. However, what makes a goal effective?
First, you have to write it down. I know you have heard all the stories about the studies that support the theory that writing down goals is more effective than just keeping them in your head; but how do you write effective goals? Just use the SMART method. I know you have heard about this method but I just had a refresher course and thought it would be a good review for the New Year.
S: specific.
Be specific about what you want to achieve. State how much weight you want to lose.
M: measureable:
Make sure you can measure the goal. Make a chart to record your progress.
A: Attainable and Realistic:
Be sure you are not setting yourself up for disappointment. Really think about your goal; what can you do while pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
T: Timely:
Be sure to put a time limit on your goal. This provides some urgency.
So while making your goals make sure you follow the SMART method and next week we will talk about how to keep track of your goals so they can become reality.
